The IWF Northern California Legacy Foundation (“Legacy”) is a 501(c)(3) charitable and educational organization whose mission is to improve the status of women and foster the development of future women leaders.
Following are Legacy’s key strategic tenets:
While IWF NorCal and Legacy they are separate legal entities, we believe that philanthropic engagement through Legacy plays a prominent role in the IWF NorCal member experience.
The IWF Northern California Legacy Foundation began in 1990 as the foundation arm of IWF Northern California following a highly successful convening of a national conference in 1989 in San Francisco. The national conference was originally chaired by Diane Winokur, a founding IWF Northern California member, and Fran Streets, a former president of International Women's Forum, who together laid the groundwork for the Legacy Foundation.
As Legacy’s first president, Diane shepherded the organization through its early days as a 501(c) (3) charitable and educational organization affiliated with the Women's Forum West. “We proudly named it Legacy because IWF Northern California needed – and wanted – to do something that carried over to the generations which come after us. We wanted to put down our mark,” says Diane.
Today, the word “legacy” remains the key to the philosophy which guides the Legacy Board in fulfilling Legacy's mission and accomplishing the organization's goals and projects.
