Each year almost half a million American children are reported missing and are believed to be commercially sexually exploited. Special Operations is working to change this number!
Join this riveting Zoom presentation that will include an interview with the founder of Special Operations, Katie Beers, District Attorney Stephen Wagstaffe, plus one of the organization’s lead private investigators, Mike Ferrari of the Integrity Group. The interview will be conducted by IWF NorCal member Cailean Sherman.
Special Operations is a charitable organization whose mission is to rescue children who are being trafficked in the San Francisco Bay Area, and is working to extend its geographical reach. The team helps locate missing kids, rescue children from dangerous situations, and help victims financially with buying clothes, food and other necessities.

Katie Beers: Founder and President, Special Operations
A former high-tech executive, Katie Beers was the Founder and President of Web-Order, one of the first e-commerce companies, which she sold to Netopia in 2000. Prior to that, she worked at Insight Software, a developer of third-party software for the NeXT® Computer, and as a consultant to Netscape. She began her career as an Assistant Product Manager for Dole Packaged Food Company in San Francisco. Katie graduated cum laude with honors in Economics from Vanderbilt University and has an MBA from the University of Chicago.

Stephen Wagstaffe: Director, Special Operations
Steve Wagstaffe grew up in Menlo Park and is a lifelong resident of San Mateo County. He obtained his Bachelor's Degree at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana in 1974 and his Law Degree at the University of California, Hastings College of Law in 1977. Steve was hired as a Deputy District Attorney in 1977 and has been with the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office for over 40 years. He was promoted to Assistant District Attorney in 1986. In 1991, he was appointed Chief Deputy District Attorney and served in this role for 19 years. In 2010, he was elected San Mateo County District Attorney and took office in January, 2011. Steve is the immediate past president of the California District Attorneys Association and continues to serve on its Board of Directors.
IWF NorCal member Cailean Sherman recently retired from Taurus Software which designs data migration and transformation applications as well as business intelligence solutions for multi-channel retail companies. She co-founded Taurus in 1987 and served as its President until her retirement in 2015. Since then she has been managing commercial real estate properties. For the last two years Cailean served as President of Woodside-Atherton Garden Club, a member of the Garden Club of America (GCA) which has over 200 member clubs comprised of 18,000 members with the goal of protecting the quality of the environment through action in the fields of conservation and civic improvement. Currently she is serving as a regional leader for GCAs twelve western state’s clubs coordinating and arranging international and national garden tours.
