  • What's New, What's True: A Dermatologist's Guide to Skin Health and Healthy Aging

    Tuesday, December 1
    4:00 pm – 5:00 pm (Pacific)

In this fast-moving, evidence-based session, board-certified dermatologist Dr. Kaveri Karhade separates fact from marketing on the skin topics everyone's asking about — what actually works in sunscreen, at-home devices, and collagen supplements; how to do a self-skin-check and spot a lesion worth getting seen; where the science stands on Botox, fillers, and laser treatments - and where they go wrong. Designed for a sharp, time-conscious audience, the talk trades hype for practical takeaways, followed by live Q&A.

Below is a general outline, we'll spend a couple of minutes on each:

  • Sun protection: what's new, what's true
  • Procedures & devices - in-office and at-home
  • Injectables: Botox and fillers
  • Supplements: collagen and beyond
  • Know your skin: self-checks for concerning lesions
  • Other options: hair loss? menopause and skin change? impact of inflammation on skin?

This program has been organized by IWF NorCal member Ann Blackburn.

Date: Tuesday, December 1st

Time: 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm (Pacific)

Location: via Zoom (Zoom details will be provided in the Event Registration confirmation email).

Speaker bio: Dr. Kaveri Karhade is a board-certified dermatologist in San Francisco, where she practices both medical and cosmetic dermatology. Her expertise spans from skin cancer screening and laser therapy to acne, hair loss, and pigmentary conditions, with particular focus on skin color. Her approach centers on the underlying science of how skin functions, ages, and breaks down. Her focus is understanding and explaining biological processes so patients can protect and maintain healthy, youthful, clear skin systematically and intelligently, rather than chasing trends or masking downstream damage after the fact. She's built a reputation for explaining the why behind any intervention — what the evidence supports and what it doesn't — and brings that same rigor to training dermatology residents in science-backed cosmetic dermatology.

She earned her medical degree at the University of Michigan, trained in dermatology at Brown University, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. She now serves as volunteer faculty for Stanford University's dermatology
